Q. How do I apply for the program?

A. To apply to the program you will fill out our Google form application which you can find by clicking the ABOUT tab and selecting HOW TO APPLY. You will scroll down and find two applications. If you are an incoming freshman you will select FIRST YEAR APPLICATION and if you are a first-year transfer student you will select INDEPENDENT APPLICATION. From there fill out the application and click Submit

Q. Where is the First-Generation Scholars program located?

A. The First Gen space is located in A. Ray Olpin Student Union Building (200 Central Campus Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84112) Suite 80 which is located in the basement.

Q. When will I hear back regarding my application?

A. Once you have applied to the program, around mid-July you will be receiving an email from our advisor. This email intends to confirm your application and confirm the cohort day you would like to join and that works for your schedule.

Q. When will I get the class code?

A. Once we have a response about your commitment to enroll and which cohort day you would like to join. We will send you the class code to register

Q. Is this a scholarship program?

A. No, this is not a scholarship program. However, once you enroll in this free elective class you are eligible to apply for the scholarships we offer for First Gen Scholars. This scholarship is available during the spring semester only.

Q. What are the benefits of joining this program? 

A. Benefits include:

  • 1 free credit elective per semester by signing up for our class so at the end of the school year you will have 2 credits that can go towards fulfilling your general education. 
  • Classes will introduce you to on and off-campus resources.
  • Access to additional scholarships.
  • Upon graduation, students will qualify to receive either a graduation cord or a stole.
  • Access to paid leadership opportunities. Once you are in the program you can apply to be a mentor and/or leader.
  • Food, family, & fun! The layout of our class allows students to build a family on campus. Our socials are always packed with yummy food and lots of fun!
